Everything you need to know about taking Magnesium Citrate Powder
What is Magnesium?
Magnesium is a chemical element (abbreviated Mg) and is essential for the human body. Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic processes. It has antioxidant properties and can help reduce oxidative stress that may occur during cell division. Magnesium is found in foods such as nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables and whole grain products.
What is magnesium citrate and trimagnesium dicitrate?
Magnesium citrate is a magnesium salt of citric acid (citrate). It is considered one of the best magnesium compounds and is often preferred because it is well soluble and easily utilised by the body. Due to its rapid absorption and good solubility, it effectively contributes to regulating electrolyte balance, especially for athletes or people who sweat a lot or lose fluids. The trimagnesium dicitrate variant delivers more magnesium per gram of substance than simple magnesium citrate and is therefore more economical. The combination of three magnesium ions and two citrate molecules ensures good solubility, making it more tolerable for sensitive stomachs.
What does USP quality mean?
"USP quality" means that the raw material used meets the quality requirements of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). These specify how the purity, content, identity and other properties of a substance are tested, ensuring consistently high quality of the active ingredient used.
Magnesium does not only play a role in cell division. It also contributes to*
- electrolyte balance
- reduction of tiredness and fatigue
- normal energy metabolism
- normal function of the nervous system
- normal psychological function
- maintenance of normal bones
- maintenance of normal teeth
- normal muscle function
- normal protein synthesis
What does Magnesium Citrate Powder taste like?
When dissolved in water as a powder, magnesium is absorbed most quickly by the body. The telomit® Magnesium Citrate Powder contains 15% magnesium — giving it a pleasantly neutral to mildly citrusy taste, without flavour enhancers or additives.
What is the best way to take Magnesium Powder?
The easiest way is to dissolve the magnesium citrate in water, stir well and drink immediately. It can also be stirred very easily into freshly squeezed orange juice or smoothies. Vitamin C in orange juice can even promote the absorption of magnesium in the body. It is advisable to spread the daily intake over two or three portions, as the body can then make better use of the available amounts of magnesium.
How important is a good magnesium supply?
Physically active and sporty people in particular need magnesium, but pregnant and breastfeeding women also have an increased need, as do older people, because magnesium absorption in the body no longer functions as well with age.
Can you overdose on magnesium citrate?
Just as one can suffer from a magnesium deficiency, an overdose of magnesium is also possible. Excessive magnesium consumption can cause diarrhoea and gastrointestinal complaints. People with kidney problems in particular can be at risk from an overdose. If in doubt, please consult a doctor.
Magnesium Citrate as powder or capsules — which suits me?
Whether powder or capsules is primarily a matter of personal preference — the active ingredient in both cases is the same high-purity trimagnesium dicitrate in USP quality. The magnesium citrate powder is ideal for those who want to determine their dosage freely. Those who prefer convenience on the go will find the same quality in practical capsule form: telomit® Magnesium Citrate Capsules (190 capsules).
