The marine brown algae "Ascophyllum nodosum" used here comes from sustainably managed North Atlantic algae areas. It is dried and gently crushed into particles. As brown algae can be contaminated by marine pollution, we only use tested, certified organic brown algae (Ascophyllum nodosum) for the production of our algae capsules. The capsule shell is also of vegan origin.

More about ascophyllum nodosum
Knotweed, a seaweed, is a brown alga that is mainly found in the North Atlantic to the Arctic regions, but also in the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and in subtropical areas. It is used to obtain alginic acid (algin), which is used in a variety of ways. In the algae themselves, algin is the structuring element of the cell walls. In the food industry, algin is produced from seaweed when iodine is extracted from seaweed. The salts of alginic acid are called alginates. They are used in food, e.g. as thickening and gelling agents. Alginates are also extracted for use in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.
