Hericium erinaceus – a mushroom with a long tradition
Hericium erinaceus, native to Europe, Asia, and North America and also known as lion’s mane, hedgehog mushroom, or monkey head mushroom, is a visually striking and versatile edible and medicinal mushroom to which many positive properties are attributed. This special traditional medicinal mushroom has been used for centuries, particularly in Asian countries.
Hericium erinaceus grows on hardwoods such as oak and beech. It forms distinctive white to cream-colored, shaggy fruiting bodies with long “spines.” It is valued not only as a culinary delicacy but also as being well tolerated. Its flavor is rather mild.
For dietary supplements, the fruiting body is of particular importance. The high-quality telomit® organic Hericium powder is obtained from the fruiting bodies and gently dried at low temperatures, from which the telomit® organic Hericium powder is produced. This is because it contains the most well-studied active compounds such as hericenones and beta-glucans. The fruiting body is therefore the most important part of the mushroom.
